Recruiting, Hiring & Onboarding

Recruiting and hiring the right people the first time is VITAL to any company’s success. *Well-respected recruiter Jörgen Sundberg states tha the average cost of onboarding an employee at $240,000. And, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, the price of a bad hire is at least 30 percent of the employee's first-year earnings. For a small company, a five-figure investment in the wrong person is a threat to the business.

To ensure success, all businesses should develop a Hiring Plan as part of their yearly Strategic Planning process (another service we offer).  This plan should indicate what positions need to be hired, what qualifications the ideal candidate will possess, what the pay ranges are for the position, and the planned “hire by” date for each new candidate.

A successful Hiring Plan should be accompanied by a Hiring Process that clearly defines the steps your company will take throughout the process to help you select the best candidates.  This Hiring Process should involve really good communication with candidates and a list of digital information your hiring team will provide the candidates throughout the process to keep them engaged. Maintain an awareness of your Employment Brand Impression during your candidate’s experience in your process is essential to keep the best candidates engaged.  According to a recent study, people who are satisfied with the candidate experience (interview process) with your company are 38% more likely to take the job offer.  So be aware that you are presenting your brand to the candidate, and that he/she is interviewing you as well.  Treat candidates like customers!

After hiring is completed, employee retention starts with the Onboarding Process.  The first few weeks at a new company are an incredibly stressful time for a new employee and there should be strong emphasis on providing clarity and a welcoming environment.  Like any first impression, employees will never forget their onboarding experience at your company, and a smooth process is vital to employee happiness and retention.  The Onboarding Process at your company should be as well organized and defined as your Hiring Process.  Things like an Onboarding Checklist, Onboarding Forms, Onboarding Handbook, 90-Day Onboarding Goals, Onboarding Training Curriculum etc. should all be part of your company’s process and should be clearly presented to your employee throughout their first few days at your organization.
